THE KEENSPACE SPOTLIGHT 2003 FAQ THING Contact: John Troutman (john@sporkman.com) Brandon Sonderegger (scrubbo@apexmail.com) 1. What's this Keenspace Book thing you guys are talking about? The Keenspace Spotlight is an annual book (that means yearly) of art and comics from the artists of Keenspace. A Keenspace Spotlight, as it were. Last years's book, the 2002 edition, practically thrown at everyone with legs at the San Diego Comic- Con, and we unloaded 4000 copies on an unsuspecting public. 2. Yikes, so what's up with the 2003 book? A lot. This one will have 10,000 or so copies printed, and will be distributed across the country as part of the Free Comic Book day promotion. Extra copies (of which there will be many) will once again make an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con in July or August. Free Comic Book Day will take place sometime between March or May, we aren't quite sure yet. 3. Alright, I want in. Um... how do I do that exactly? First, join the KeenspaceBook Yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/keenspacebook. Then e-mail John and Scrubbo and tell them how many pages you want in the book. Registration ends on December 1st, 2002. If we have space (ha) to fill after that, people can hop in at the last minute if they can still meet the regular deadlines. Additionally, tell us your name, your comic, and your comic's address online. Even if we're your bestest friends in the whole wide world, pretend we're morons and give us the info anyway. It's a paperwork/neatness thing. 4. How much do my pages cost? Each page costs $50, with the payments due by January 1st, 2003. Naturally, a half page costs $25. To pay by mail, please send your check or money order to: KEENSPOT P.O. Box 1525 Temple City, CA 91780 It's very important to include a letter with payment stating the following: 1. Your name 2. Your address 3. Your phone number 4. The name of your Keenspace hosted comic 5. The URL of your Keenspace hosted website 6. Specifically the amount you are paying and what it is for 7. Exactly how many pages in the book you are requesting 8. Any preferences, questions, comments, whatever you might have You can also pay by PayPal. It's a little more expensive (to cover most of what PayPal charges us), but I know it's easier for some to do it this way. One-half page in Keenspace Spotlight 2003 book is $25.75, one-full page in Keenspace Spotlight 2003 book is $51.50. At PayPal, please pay here: keenspot@keenspot.com And please put the information requested above in the message area that PayPal allows. If there's not enough room there (or if you'd rather not put that info there, which is perfectly understandable) please email that information separately to Teri at TeriCrosby@aol.com and you can put in the PayPal message area that you are emailing me the necessary information separately. Make your checks or money orders out to simply Keenspot. 5. That was a really long FAQ entry. Tell me about it. 6. So I paid for my pages, now what? I'm thinking you should draw them, but that's just me. 7. But are there any content restrictions? We're keeping the book at PG-13. Lots of kids show up at the Con and for Free Comic Book day, and we don't want to warp their minds. Yet. If you simply have an ad in the book for you strip, and the strip itself is somewhat mature, label your ad with a Mature warning. As far as what PG-13 itself entails: no harsh swearing (sh--, f---, b--ch, a--, do I need to keep going?), no full nudity (bikinis, however, are a-okay with us), and no general nasty things. Use your best judgement. You're all clever little monkeys. 8. And how should my pages be formatted? 6.75" x 10.5" pages, at 600dpi. Saved as TIFs are muchly prefered. The actual artwork shown will end up being 6.25" x 10" - the extra half an inch will be cut off. So watch where you put your panel gutters. If your art extends to 6.25" wide, it'll be at the VERY edge of the page. 9. What do I do with the pages when I'm done? First, create smaller 72dpi versions of your pages so we can make sure everything is formatted okay, you don't have any typos, etc. Upload the small pages to your Keenspace site and send the links to John and Scrubbo by January 15th, 2003. If everything is fine, we'll give you the okay to upload your 600dpi pages to your Keenspace site too, and we'll want you to send us links to those big pages by January 25th. 10. And what about the cover to this monstrosity you've constructed? We're working on that. When we hammer out the details for the cover, we'll let everyone on the mailing list know. 11. And I *will* get to see this book someday, correct? Correct. For people that won't be attending the Comic-Con in 2003, your copies of the book will be shipped to the address you provided us when paying. For the record, you should get five of these puppies. 12. Is that it? I think so, but God knows I'm gonna get a million more questions before this thing is over. For a quick reference on things, there's a Page Count file showing the amount of pages currently sold (maxing out at 80 to 124, I think) and another file listing all the important dates. 13. Can I have your babies? Hey, the Trout is single ladies! 14. I was talking to Scrubbo. I know. *cries*
